Reagan Recommends an Old Classic... The Twits by Dahl

The Twits
Written by Roald Dahl
Illustrated by Quentin Blake
Genre: classic
The type of fiction: Fantasy

The twits are very mean people because they love to pull nasty pranks on each
other.   Also Mr. Twit puts strong glue on their tree so birds get stuck for their
bird pie and he wants to own the first upside down monkey circus.  So he has
his 4 monkeys do everything on their hands and if they're not on their hands
Mrs.Twit would run at them and try and hit them with her stick. But the monkeys
and birds were friends and Mr. Twit doesn't like that so Mr.and Mrs.Twit went
out to buy guns to shoot the birds. When they were gone the birds got the key
to the monkey cage.

When they were all free they went into the shed where the strong glue was
kept. After they got the glue the animals went inside the Twits house. Then
they glued everything upside down. As Mr. and Mrs. Twits were coming back
to the house. The animals got out of the house and went back to their original
spots.but two Birds with glue brushes flew above the Twits and the glue from
the brushes got on the Twits heads. When they got inside the house the Twits
thought they were upside down [they weren’t the smartest].  So they decided
to go on their heads and be rightside up again but because of the glue on
their heads they got stuck. The monkeys and birds live happily in the tree but
the Twits did not.

Joel Recommends A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park

A Long Walk To Water
By: Linda Sue Park
Book talk by: Joel
 Historical fiction

I chose this book because it is something probably no one would want to read or be
interested in but this story is beyond amazing. In  book Salva, a boy who lives in sudan
is torn by war yet somehow he keeps trudging along even though he keeps finding
problems around every turn. Nya who has to walk 8 hours a day to get water even though
its all muddy.

Sudan 2008

Going. Going was easy, the big plastic container held only air. Tall for her eleven years
Nya could switch the handle from one side to the other or cradle it in both arms. She
could even drag it behind her, bumping it against the ground and raising a tiny cloud of
dust with each step

Sudan 1985
Salva sat cross legged on the bench. He kept his head turned toward the front, hands
folded, back perfectly straight everything about him said he was paying attention, except
his mind.

Something I enjoy about this book is how there are to characters and in the end there very
different stories tie together. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes  adventure,
a hint of mystery, and a heartwarming end. I rate this book a 10/10 stars because it is one
of the best books I have ever read in my life, I hope you will enjoy this story too.

Avery Recommends Wish by O'Connor

Wish by Barbara O’Connor
Reviewed by Avery

I read the book Wish by Barbara O’Connor and the genre of this book is
Domestic Fiction.
The reason why I chose this book for my book talk is because I saw a dog
on the cover. And as you probably know, I LOVE  dogs. So when I saw
a dog on the cover of the book, I thought it would be a very interesting
book to read.
In the book Wish by Barbara O’Connor, Charlie Reese is not a very lucky
girl. Her father just went to jail and her mother won’t get out of bed. So,
Charlie gets sent to a ghost town called Colby in North Carolina with her
aunt and uncle Gus and Bertha who she has never even met!! But one thing
that Charlie does keep track of in her crazy life if making a wish every day.
Once Charlie gets to school, the only person who wants to be her friend is a
hillbilly kid named Howard. At first, Charlie doesn't want to be Howard’s
friend but eventually, she comes around. But, what really connects Howard
and Charlie is one day, when they are on the bus home, they spot a stray dog.
Charlie, wants. That. dog. So Charlie and Howard start making traps for the
stray dog. And one day, THEY CATCH IT!!! Charlie decides to name the dog
Wishbone. Charlie is happy the whole summer. She has a real friend, a real
dog and a starting to be a real family. Until one day Charlie’s mom calls and
says she wants her back home. What will Charlie do? Will she go back to
Raleigh, or stay in Colby?
One thing I enjoyed about this book is that there is a lot of suspense in it
so you really want to keep reading it. One thing I disliked about this book
is that it took so long for Charlie and Howard to catch Wishbone!

People I would recommend this book to is animal lovers, and sad book lovers
I would rate this book an 8. I would rate it this because I LOVED the book,
just it was very sad.

Historical Fiction Book Review by Kaitlyn

WORDS ON FIRE
                                          AUTHOR:
                               JENNIFER A. NIELSEN

                                                       Genre:Historical Fiction

I chose the book because the cover hooked me in. As I was reading,
I wanted to know if Audra could live by herself.

One day in June, 1893 a girl named Audra lived with her parents. Her father
can do real magic. One day Audra was hanging laundry on the clothesline,
and she could see the soldiers. Audra ran inside to grab her parents, the
next second Audra’s mother grabbed her and ran. Her father  got arrested
and the soldiers burned the house down. A few minutes later Audra’s mother
full and got arrested. The two parents got arrested and Audra is alone.

Passage (pg 14):
“I was faster, so I didn’t realize at first that Mama had fallen.  When I heard
her call my name, I turned to see her foot had become tangled in some
low-hanging wire for our climbing plants.”

“No, Audra,” she cried.  “Keep running!”

Nothing could make me leave her, not as Papa had just forced us to leave him.
I hurried back to her, my heart pounding in my chest so forcefully that I
could hardly think.

“You must get to the forest,” Mama said.

“I can untangle you.” My  trembling fingers were working at the wire that
had somehow twisted around her leg.

I really like this book because there is action. There is violent action.  That
means there were a lot of people who were killed because of WWII.  Audra
has to save herself from the soldiers.

I would recommend the book to people that like WWII books and people
who like books about characters who have to protect themselves.

I rate the book to 10 out of 10.

Do you have any questions?

Sarah gives SCAT by Hiaasen an 8 out of 10

5th Grade Book Talk 2020

Name: Sarah Book Talk Presentation Date:

What is the title, author and genre of the book?
The genre is Mystery because throughout the book you wonder and question what's going
to happen next. You also, will suspect some characters and actions that they might commit
in the story. In this story you have to puzzle piece together what actually happened, I would
describe that as a mystery.
Why did you choose this book?
I personally like the author Gordan Korman and his writing with realistic fiction and Mrs. Golish told
me that the author Carl Hiaasen had similar style writing.
Provide an original summary of the story. Do not retell everything.
The book Scat is about a teacher, Mrs. Starch,  mysteriously going missing on a field trip to the Black
Vine Swamp. While children in her class search for this unusual teacher an Oil Company plans a
scam on an alegall property. While everyone is suspecting one person the police try to find evidence
to what really happened. Find out what happened to Mrs. Starch the oil company and a suspect to do
with it all in the book Scat.
Share a passage (1-2 paragraphs) from the book.
‘’I can’t zoom in Play mode. It's not like Photoshop.’’
‘’Then just look!’’ She went up to the TV and pointed to a dark band around the animal’s midsection.
‘’Can you see that?’’
Nick could see it just fine. ‘’I don’t believe this,’’ he said.
His mom smiled. ‘’You’ve been ponged, Nicky.’’
‘’You mean punked.’’
‘’Whatever,’’ she said. ‘’Your ‘panther’ is wearing a belt!’’
What did you enjoy or dislike about this book?
I like how in this book you constantly want to continue reading because you're constantly asking
questions. I also like how every chapter is a different person telling their own story.
Who would you recommend the book to?
Anyone who likes mysteries or anyone who likes figuring out what's going to happen next
RATING 1 (not so hot) to 10 (awesome)?
